Since launching the Redpill Linpro API Ready Model in 2015, Redpill Linpro have been involved in a number of API strategy- and implementation initiatives. It has been interesting laying the path for several organisations digital transformations, with many lessons learnt and best practices on how and how not to do things in the digital era. As we are now almost 2 years and over 15 projects into our work with APIs and Digitization, it was time to take a step back and reflect upon what can be made to strengthen the model even further. We concluded two important things.
- APIs will generate interesting real time data that can assist businesses in making well informed real time decisions based on hard facts.
- Let APIs be APIs – The API facade pattern still rules. In many API initiatives we have become involved in parallel discussions on Microservices or the Internet of Things (IoT) initiatives. We are very happy to be made part of these discussions, but it is still or strong belief that one should let APIs be APIs and not introduce business logic in the API layer. That is part of the Microservices or IoT initiative.
To address bullet no 1 we decided to add an additional phase to our API Ready Model and in so introduce an updated version of the model that explores the opportunities and possibilities presented by the new Analyze. More information on the Analyze phase of the API Ready model can be found here.
The topics for bullet no 2 are much too large to be covered by this short news article. But we do of course have much insight on how Micro Services and IoT initiatives can be implemented and connected to your API initiative. Look out for our concepts on Micro Services and IoT that will be launched after the summer of 2017.
”It is now proven that APIs are an important part of the Digital Transformation and we have been engaged in several API initiatives over the past 2 years. It is great that we are now able to gather the best practices we have made and feed them back to the API Ready Model. This way we reuse our knowledge and can make it work for new customers who wish to implement APIs. This reflects the Open Source spirit and Open thinking that is an important part of the Redpill Linpro culture”, says Henrik Gavelli, CEO of Redpill Linpro.
