Driven by a desire to prevent chronic pain caused by osteoarthritis in horses, Eva Skiöldebrand and her research colleagues have developed biomarkers for the precision diagnostics of the disease. Through the collaboration with Redpill Linpro, advanced osteoarthritis diagnostics are now being moved from the laboratory directly into the hands of the veterinarian.
A central goal of the project is to create a sampling kit for osteoarthritis that can be easily used in daily clinical practice. Redpill Linpro is responsible for building the digital platform and a user-friendly app that automates the entire chain—from sampling to results. By integrating smart data processing and AI into the platform, a precise decision-support tool is created to help veterinarians interpret the status of the osteoarthritis in real time.
"We specialize in the development and commercialization of biomarkers for veterinary diagnostics. Our goal is to provide veterinarians with the tools they need to make optimal treatment decisions for osteoarthritis, based on objective and scientific measurement data. With our biomarkers and Redpill Linpro's digital solution, veterinarians receive an immediate and clear picture of the extent of the osteoarthritis in real time," says Eva Skiöldebrand, co-founder of Arthro Diagnostics and Professor of General Pathology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU).
For Redpill Linpro, the collaboration is about making complex research surrounding osteoarthritis accessible and manageable for veterinarians in the field.
"Our mission is to build a stable and fast infrastructure that makes the complex simple. By automating data collection during osteoarthritis investigations and utilizing smart analysis, we ensure that the technology works for the veterinarian. The result is a more efficient care chain that can more quickly help horses suffering from osteoarthritis," says Henrik Hallgren, Region Manager at Redpill Linpro Gothenburg
By combining Arthro Diagnostics' patented method for diagnosing osteoarthritis and measuring treatment efficacy with a modern digital solution, the parties are setting a new standard for how osteoarthritis and chronic pain in horses can be diagnosed and treated.
*Biomarkers are measurable substances in the body that indicate a normal or pathological condition.
